Career Outcomes

In today's global marketplace, your international background can be a huge advantage

However, if your previous education and work experience occurred mostly outside of the United States, you can expect that the American-style job search will be dramatically different from anything you've previously experienced.

We’re here to help. More than a third of Kelley’s MBA student population comes from outside of the United States. Our career coaches understand the differences in how companies recruit here and overseas.

We'll work one-on-one with you to perfect your personal story, help you identify aspects of your previous experiences that give you a strategic advantage and teach you techniques for networking and interviewing—whether you seek a job within the U.S. or abroad.

And remember your powerful Kelley alumni network and your peers within the program. They can share their experiences—from networking to lessons learned since they first arrived at Kelley.

As an international student at Kelley, you’ll need to be very diligent in your job search—but your diligence will pay off. Our international students enjoy the same overall offer rate as domestic students.

Kelley offers a wide range of resources for international students to help them manage the transition to the United States. Here are a few tips:

  • Discuss your career options with your career coach.
  • Practice English with our Intensive English Program.
  • Improve your networking, leadership and communication skills during the first semester’s Leadership, Professional and Career Development programming.

Scholarships

All students offered admission to the MBA Program are automatically considered for merit-based aid offered by the Kelley School of Business; there is no additional application to complete. Awards are in the form of scholarships and fellowships. Awards go to the strongest candidates offered admission—no particular test scores or GPA guarantees aid; we consider many factors. Awards range in value from approximately $15,000 to full tuition.

We base merit aid awards on the following criteria, without regard to financial need: Academic performance. GMAT/GRE scores. Professional experience.

FAQs

  • While we don't require work experience, it is rare to be offered admission without it. We like to see students with at least three years of full-time, post-undergraduate work experience at the time of enrollment. On average, our MBA students have five years of full-time experience. Most students find their MBA experience far richer and their post-MBA career options far greater if they have a base of professional work experience to build on as they move through the program.

  • The Kelley School’s Full-Time MBA curriculum is academically rigorous. We typically require the GMAT or GRE as one demonstration of quantitative and analytic capability. Candidates may apply for a waiver of this requirement and submit other evidence of their academic potential. In evaluating waiver requests, we will focus on strong academic achievement in prior undergraduate and graduate degree programs, with particular attention to successful completion of quantitative and analytic coursework. Holding CPA or CFA certification (or their international equivalents) can also serve to demonstrate academic potential. To request a GMAT/GRE waiver, you must complete the following two steps: Complete and submit our online information request form (to ensure that we have your most current contact information); and Submit via email ([email protected]) a current professional resume, your unofficial or official undergraduate transcripts (and graduate school transcripts, if applicable), and a brief statement (300 words or less) summarizing why you believe you qualify for a waiver. Deadlines for submission of waiver requests: Round one applicants: October 1 Round two applicants: December 15 Round three applicants: February 15 Round four applicants: April 1 You will receive a response to your request within one week of submission.

  • Yes, you may submit valid results of either the GMAT or the GRE. Your scores should demonstrate a balance between verbal and quantitative skills.

  • No. We consider many factors in the admissions and financial aid selection process, so we can't predict your chances without reviewing your complete application. To benchmark your statistics against current Kelley MBA students, you can review our class profile.

  • You should apply whenever you believe your application is strongest—it’s better to meet a later deadline with a strong application than to rush to meet an early deadline. We offer four deadlines: Oct. 15, Jan. 5, March 1 and April 15. We will have seats and financial aid available through all of the deadlines. International applicants should apply by Jan. 5 due to the additional time it takes to secure a student visa.

  • No, we only offer fall admission.

  • Interviews are not required. They are offered by invitation only, after you apply. Not all applicants will be invited to interview. For those who are invited, the invitation can come at any point in the process up until shortly before admission decisions are released. We do not offer alumni interviews; all interviews are conducted by members of the admissions committee.

  • To reapply, you must complete a new online application including submission of all required supporting documents. You may submit your new application prior to any application deadline. You are welcome to register the same recommender you used in your prior application, or you may choose a new recommender. In the optional essay, we encourage you to specifically discuss your professional and academic accomplishments since your last application. We are happy to provide re-applicants with an application fee waiver. Please contact us via email [email protected] prior to reapplying to request a waiver.
