Masters in Computer engineering makes it possible for us to telecommute from home, check our e-mail on the go, and videoconference with clients from around the world. But laptops and information networks aren’t the only products computer engineers develop; they reconstruct genomes, design robots, and conceive software to make businesses more efficient.

At the School of Engineering, we want to place our students at the forefront of the telecommunications, networks, and microelectronics industries. The master's program in Computer Engineering gets you there. By teaching you the principles underlying the design and integration of computer components and systems, we make sure you have a base from which to launch improvements in the field.

Our collaborative relationships with industry and government agencies help you reach your potential, and you gain practical experience that adds to in-class explorations in a number of critical areas — everything from VLSI verification and testing to embedded systems design and computer architecture.

Many fields are open to our students, including information technology, computer design and engineering, operating systems and networks, computer architecture, and software applications, among others.

Essay Question

Question 1

As part of your application, you are expected to respond, in writing, to two prompts. A response to both prompts is required. This is an opportunity for you to give us a stronger sense of who you are, as a person. Your essay should be as unique as you are and should be written using your voice. Include each prompt as the header for each of your two responses. When finished, combine your response to both prompts into one PDF and upload it to the application. Your total essay upload should be in 12 pt, Arial font and no more than two pages, double-spaced, in length. Prompt 1: Drawing from your previous academic, professional and personal experiences, tell us what attracted you to the program of study you have noted in your application. Be very specific about your past experiences and how they shaped your interests. Prompt 2: Students often have a wide range of ideas and plans for what they hope to achieve after they receive their graduate degree. Tell us what your 5-year plan is after completing a degree from NYU Tandon.

Scholarships

A scholarship committee automatically reviews all applicants to full-time Master’s programs at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. Awarding scholarships to admitted students is based on multiple factors, including academic performance (grades, exam scores, etc.). Scholarships are exclusively awarded for use for the fall and spring semesters only, unless otherwise specified. All graduate scholarships carry requirements for maintaining eligibility based on the recipient's academic performance at the Tandon School of Engineering. An award notification communication is sent to those applicants who are offered a scholarship, and it outlines the maintenance eligibility requirements for each student. Please refer to your scholarship award notification for questions regarding your individual scholarship maintenance requirements.

All merit scholarships are academically based; should a student fail to meet the academic requirements in their award letter, any associated scholarship will be canceled without opportunity for reinstatement.

FAQs

  • The GRE can be waived in certain circumstances. Please see GRE/GMAT Requirements page for details. Should you not be able to meet these criteria, a GRE score will need to be submitted. Most of our programs do require either GRE or GMAT scores (depending on the program and full-time/part-time status), these scores are looked at in combination with the rest of your application. So while they are not your entire application, your application is not complete without them. As for TOEFL, all applicants are required to submit some form of English Language Proficiency. For international applicants, and those with international transcripts, the most common way of completing this requirement is to submit English Language Proficiency Test Scores, most commonly through the TOEFL (we also accept IELTS, CAE, or PTE). Visit the English Language Proficiency Testing page to check if you're eligible to request a test waiver.

  • At the end of your first term, your GPA is your CGPA, and yes, it will be reviewed every term. You must ensure you meet the CGPA requirements listed on your award letter every term, as well as any additional requirements related to your admission.

  • Graduate scholarships are applicable only for the fall and spring terms, barring exceptions for students from the Dean’s Office.
