Application Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the University of California, Los Angeles, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent. You must also have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. In addition, you must submit SAT or ACT scores. The university also considers your extracurricular activities and personal statements when making admissions decisions. For the Composition major, you must have a strong writing ability and an interest in literature and the arts. You must also be able to think critically and solve problems. The Composition major is a four-year program. In your first year, you will take courses in English composition, literature, and critical thinking. In your second year, you will take more advanced courses in these subjects. In your third and fourth years, you will choose a concentration in one of the following areas: creative writing, literary studies, or rhetoric and composition. Upon graduation, you will have a strong foundation in writing, literature, and critical thinking. You will also be able to communicate your ideas effectively in writing and speak persuasively. You will be prepared for a career in writing, editing, teaching, or other fields that require strong communication skills.
