Applicants should have at least five GCSEs at grade C or above, including English language and mathematics. Applicants who have not studied English literature at GCSE should be prepared to demonstrate their interest in the subject through their personal statement and/or at interview. Applicants who have studied English literature at A-level are expected to have achieved a grade B or above. Applicants who have not studied English literature at A-level should be prepared to demonstrate their interest in the subject through their personal statement and/or at interview. All applicants are required to have a good level of English language skills. This will be assessed through the admissions test and/or interview. The University of Essex offers a range of pre-entry courses for students who do not meet the normal entry requirements.
