Application Requirements

Applicants must have a good honours degree (or equivalent) in social anthropology, medical anthropology, or a related subject. Applicants with a degree in another discipline may be considered if they have a strong background in anthropology and/or medicine. Applicants must also have a strong research interest in medical anthropology and a commitment to working in the field. The MPhil in Medical Anthropology is a two-year programme that combines taught courses with research. The taught courses cover a range of topics in medical anthropology, including: the anthropology of health and illness, the anthropology of medicine, the anthropology of the body, and the anthropology of medical ethics. The research component of the programme involves conducting a research project on a topic of the student's choosing. The MPhil in Medical Anthropology is a highly competitive programme, and only a limited number of places are available each year. Applicants are therefore advised to apply early.
