To be admitted to the BM Music Education program, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and meet all of the following requirements: * A completed application for admission to the University of the Incarnate Word. * An audition for the music department. * A satisfactory score on the SAT or ACT. * A minimum of 16 units of college-level coursework, including 6 units of English, 3 units of math, 3 units of science, and 3 units of social studies. * A letter of recommendation from a high school teacher or guidance counselor. * An essay on why you want to study music education. Students who are admitted to the BM Music Education program will be required to take a variety of courses in music theory, music history, conducting, and performance. They will also be required to complete a student teaching internship. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to work as music teachers in elementary, middle, and high schools. They will also be prepared to pursue careers in music therapy, music composition, and music performance.
