  • FAU’s Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy is involved in several leading research centers: Interdisciplinary Center for Molecular Materials (ICMM) Erlangen Catalysis Resource Center (ECRC) Computer Chemistry Center (CCC) Emil Fischer Center (bioactive molecules, pharmaceutical sciences) These centers foster interdisciplinary projects with the Faculties of Engineering and Medicine, and with national and international institutions.
  • Step 1: Identify your research interests and potential supervisor. Step 2: Contact the supervisor to discuss your research interests and obtain their acceptance. Step 3: Upon acceptance, follow the formal application procedures as instructed by your supervisor and the department. Rolling Admissions: Applications are accepted year-round; there are no fixed deadlines. Processing Time: Start the process 9–12 months before your intended start date to allow for administrative and visa processing.
  • Academic Degree: A completed Master’s (or equivalent) degree in Chemistry, Molecular Science, Physics, Biology, Pharmacy, Chemical and Bioengineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Academic Excellence: Outstanding academic records are expected, especially for the Graduate School of Molecular Science (GSMS). Supervisor: Applicants must contact and secure a supervisor (professor) in their research area before applying. Language: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required; German skills are appreciated but not mandatory for most research groups. Application Materials: CV, transcripts, research proposal, and supervisor’s acceptance.
