Laboratory of Gastrointestinal and Exocrine Gland Biology (Monasterio Lab) at the Department of Medicine, Solna, Karolinska Institutet, embedded in a mucosal immunology/spatial omics hub at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) at Karolinska University Hospital./nResearch focuses on salivary glands as regulators of whole-body physiology and a gut–salivary gland axis involved in adaptation to intestinal inflammation, integrating multi-omics (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) and hypothesis-driven mechanistic work to dissect how salivary glands influence aerodigestive and systemic physiology in mice and humans./nThe doctoral project includes ~80% wet-lab and 20% bioinformatics work, training in molecular and cellular techniques, animal models, spatial omics technologies, and opportunities for manuscript preparation and conference presentations.
