PhD in Molecular Virology

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required. A doctoral (PhD) student position is available in Prof Gerald McInerney’s research group. The laboratory focuses on the cell biology of virus infection, with a particular interest in alphaviruses, including chikungunya virus. This project will form part of a collaboration between the GM laboratory and researchers at Umeå University to study the viral and cellular components of viral replication organelles, using state-of-the-art tools of proteomics, structural biology, biochemistry and computational biology. The work in this project will provide unique perspectives on the structure and function of viral replication organelles.
