Overview
We are looking to hire a PhD student in the field of Materials Science/Materials Physics/Materials Chemistry to work on the microscale tribology at the microstructural level, by conducting in situ mechanical experiments inside a scanning electron microscope./nYou will investigate the microtribological deformation behaviour of nickel based super alloys with a special emphasis on extreme deformation conditions such as high strain rates. You will perform advanced in situ microtribological experiments, primarily scratch testing, inside the scanning electron microscope (SEM) using state-of-the-art microtribological testers. In addition, you will be involved in the microstructural characterisation of the scratch tracks using techniques such as quantitative 3D back scatter electron detector (BSE) for in situ topography measurement and electron back scatter diffraction (EBSD). Location: Leuven, Belgium. Department: Materials Engineering.
