The Centre provides education in Introduction to Legal Science, Legal Methodology and Contract Law at the Faculty of Law at KU Leuven./nThe academic staff of the Centre for Legal Methodology conducts research in the field of private economic law. There are three lines of research:/n(1) General legal theory. A first line of research aims to study the general principles and concepts on which The first line of research aims to study the general principles and concepts on which positive law is based and from which it derives its system. This includes the application of the law in time and space, the distinction between supplementary and mandatory rules of law, the interpretation of legislation and legal acts, and the statute of limitations. Although this research concerns principles, its practical relevance is enhanced by placing the insights gainedwithin the context of private economic law./n(2) Cross-disciplinary. A second line of research aims to study legal topics that lie at the intersection of different branches of law. Such topics are usually characterised by conflicting principles, as each branch of law has its own system to a certain extent. The aim of our research is therefore to contribute to the coherence of the law and legal certainty. A specific focus within this line of research concerns the role of freedom of contract in areas such as company law, insolvency law/n(3) Functional branches of law. A third line of research aims to study contract law within a specific economic sector. This contributes to the development of functional branches of law, such as transport law, art law, travel law and sports law. Within the framework of the aforementioned three lines of research, several doctoral theses have already been defended. In recent years, the Centre for Legal Methodology has succeeded in obtaining various research mandates (both doctoral and postdoctoral) on a competitive basis from FWO, IWT and BAEF./nThe scholarship holder is primarily expected to prepare a PhD thesis on private economic law. The appointed person will primarily conduct scientific research, both independent research and within the framework of the research projects at the Kortrijk and Leuven campuses. In addition, the appointed person will provide limited teaching support for the seminars on legal methodology.
