PhD in Human-Computer Interaction

This PhD studentship is an industrially linked research opportunity in partnership with the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) based within Loughborough University's Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering. /nThe project focuses on advancing explainable AI (XAI) in manufacturing by embedding user-centric explanations into machine learning workflows using structured, ontology-driven approaches validated by industry partners. /nThe role involves designing and validating a user-centred explainability framework, delivering tools to assess explainability requirements, selecting appropriate XAI techniques (e.g., SHAP, LIME, counterfactuals), and developing novel explanation interfaces for industrial applications. /nThe student will work with academics from the Wolfson School, Intelligent Automation Centre and engineering teams within the MTC, gaining real-world industrial experience.
