This PhD project seeks to contribute to the political economy of green transition and the role that states and governments play in these processes, with particular interest in how states use state-owned enterprises (SOEs) as agents of change./nQuestions of interest include: How do states use SOEs instrumentally to achieve ecological transition goals? How do SOEs react to state mandated policies seeking to channel or change their behaviours? What means of resistance to state mandates do they have, what factors make compliance more likely?/nThe project is also interested in the societal impact of green transitions: How do green industrial policies impact on local communities and societies at large?/nThe project can look at any sectors, e.g. energy, mining, agriculture or manufacturing, and any geographical area. Of particular interest are studies focusing on countries in the Global South./nLocation: London. Start date: October 2026. Project reference: 2026/LUL/UFGS.
