NUAcT PhD Studentship: Law and the Nonhuman /nAward Summary: Full tuition fees at the Home rate plus an annual stipend equivalent to the National Minimum Doctoral Stipend (£20,780 from October 2025) across 3 years. /nOverview: Newcastle Law School at Newcastle University invites applicants for a doctoral studentship in law and the nonhuman. This is an open call; candidates should apply with their own project proposal based on their own interests. Projects can focus on areas such as rights of nature, ocean law, nonhuman animal law, environmental law, or theoretical approaches relevant to law and the nonhuman. Critical theory lenses and interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary projects are particularly welcome. /nSupervision and community: The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Emily Jones alongside a second supervisor chosen for fit to the project. There is the possibility of a supervisor from another discipline. The selected candidate will join the Nonhuman Law Research Group and the research community in the School and Newcastle University. /nNumber of awards: 1 /nStart date: September 2026 /nAward duration: 3 years /nSponsor: Newcastle University (NUAcT Fellowship)
