Overview

The PhD research project is part of the new Norwegian Maritime AI Centre, led by NTNU./nThe objective of this PhD project is to develop AI enabled route planning and navigational intelligence for risk based and energy efficient maritime navigation. The work will use the emerging IHO S100 maritime data standard together with historical, real-time and forecast information including shipping traffic, navigational hazards, bathymetry, and metocean conditions such as waves, currents, water levels, wind, and ice. Machine learning models will be developed to forecast future variations in such dynamic conditions and to incorporate the operational state of the vessel into routing decisions. The resulting route planning solutions will support improved navigational safety, operational resilience and reduced emissions both for conventional and autonomous vessels./nLocation: Trondheim, Norway.
