FAQs
Yes. If an M.S. student repeats a course once, the highest grade will be counted in the GPA. If a course is repeated more than once, all subsequent grades will be included in the GPA. Note: regardless of how many times a course is repeated, it only counts once towards degree requirements. For example: If a student takes Programming Languages (CS-GY 6373) -- a course worth 3 credits -- and earns a “C,” then repeats the course and earns an A, only the “A” will count towards the GPA, but only 3 credits (and not 6 credits) will count towards degree requirements.
Students must have at least an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and a core GPA of 3.0 or higher to graduate.
NYU Tandon School of Engineering has an acceptance rate of 35% making it competitive for applicants while applying for programs.
The GRE can be waived in certain circumstances. Please see GRE/GMAT Requirements page for details. Should you not be able to meet these criteria, a GRE score will need to be submitted. Most of our programs do require either GRE or GMAT scores (depending on the program and full-time/part-time status), these scores are looked at in combination with the rest of your application. So while they are not your entire application, your application is not complete without them. As for TOEFL, all applicants are required to submit some form of English Language Proficiency. For international applicants, and those with international transcripts, the most common way of completing this requirement is to submit English Language Proficiency Test Scores, most commonly through the TOEFL (we also accept IELTS, CAE, or PTE). Visit the English Language Proficiency Testing page to check if you're eligible to request a test waiver.
The university charges per credit. Depending on your program, you will confirm the amount of credits and multiply it by the cost listed on the NYU Tuition and Fees website. Tuition is charged based on enrollment, in which you only pay for the courses you are enrolled in at the university.
