This PhD project will tackle multidrug-resistant pathogens by developing high-throughput image-based, multiplexed human cell infection assays and machine learning/AI algorithms to dissect intra- and intercellular signalling networks and discover new host- or pathogen-directed antimicrobials./nThe project includes engineering libraries of barcoded mammalian cells and bacteria, developing multiplexed infection assays monitored by high-content live fluorescence microscopy, creating AI pipelines to analyse imaging data, and using results to predict and validate targets for new antibiotics or host-directed drugs. Work will begin with A549 lung epithelial cells and Legionella pneumophila and may include a viral model if time permits./nLocation: School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences, Queen's University Belfast, Belfast, Northern Ireland.
