The project proposes biochar production from oil-palm and re-application to oil-palm fields to improve biomass management and soil health, enhance carbon sequestration, and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. The project will identify suitable biowaste feedstocks for biochar, assess biochar impacts on soil health and GHG mitigation, run field trials across different soil types in oil palm plantations, conduct controlled experiments to uncover microbial and physicochemical mechanisms, and explore farmer/smallholder willingness to adopt biochar interventions. Location: Malaysia referenced in project context; University: Queen's University Belfast (School of Biological Sciences).
