PhD in Behavioural Ecology

The Department of Zoology at Stockholm University seeks a PhD student to join an international research project led by Professor John Fitzpatrick examining sexual selection in females using the pygmy halfbeak (Dermogenys collettei). The project will combine laboratory experiments, fieldwork in Southeast Asia (Malaysia and Singapore), and AI-assisted behavioural tracking to examine costs, benefits, and ecological drivers of female sexual ornaments. The PhD involves experimental work, data collection, quantitative analyses, international field sampling and collaborations, and training in experimental design, animal behaviour, evolutionary theory, advanced data analysis, and scientific writing.
