PhD in History

Location: Swansea/nThe year 2025 marks the 160th anniversary of the landing of the Mimosa on the shores of Porth Madryn, an occasion that offers an opportunity to re-examine this history from a fresh perspective. The project seeks to re-examine the history of the Welsh settlement in Patagonia, aligning with the Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan (2024) and the National Library of Wales Strategic Plan 2025–30. It aims to explore revisiting and reinterpreting historical collections relating to the Welsh settlement in Patagonia, updating and adding a critical dimension to the traditional narrative, incorporating a broader range of experiences and perspectives in educational resources, and contributing to the National Library’s Strategic Objectives to preserve and develop the nation’s memory and connect communities.
