  • All admitted PhD students receive full financial support for up to 6 years, which includes tuition remission, a living stipend, health insurance, and research/travel funding. Support is provided through fellowships, teaching assistantships, and research assistantships.
  • Students complete coursework in the first two years, followed by field and language examinations, a dissertation proposal, and the dissertation itself. The degree is awarded after submission of a doctoral dissertation (normally 80,000–100,000 words) and a successful defense.

  • The PhD normally takes 6–7 years of full-time study.
