Research theme: Computational magnetism/nAdvanced magnetic materials provide a versatile platform for exploring emergent spin phenomena and developing next-generation technologies. In this PhD project, you will employ atomistic spin-lattice dynamics simulations, a framework that combines atomistic spin dynamics with molecular dynamics to investigate angular momentum transfer, energy dissipation and heating arising from the coupling between spins (magnons) and the lattice (phonons)./nThe spin-lattice dynamics framework is essential for interpreting and guiding recent experiments in THz phononic switching and investigates regimes relevant to magnetic hyperthermia. The simulations will be performed using the open-source software package VAMPIRE (vampire.york.ac.uk)./nThe successful candidate will receive an annual tax-free stipend set at the UKRI rate (£20,780 for 2025/26), tuition fees will be paid, and the project is 3.5-year in duration. Start date is July 2026. Location: Manchester, UK.
