Overview
This 4-year PhD studentship at The University of Manchester focuses on designing novel homologation strategies for drug discovery using visible light-mediated catalysis, with emphasis on biomimetic pathways for the homologation of amines. The project is industry-funded (in collaboration with AstraZeneca) and provides training in methodology development, practical organic synthesis, contemporary photochemistry, analytical and characterisation techniques (NMR, X-ray, possibly EPR, HRMS, IR, UV/Vis etc.), structural elucidation, and mechanistic studies. The project will be carried out in Manchester with the opportunity of a 3-month placement at AstraZeneca in the UK. Start date: October 2026.
