This 4-year PhD project at the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology focuses on design and engineering of enzymes for scalable production of therapeutic peptides. /nThe project will employ deep learning-based protein sequence design tools to deliver biocatalysts for peptide synthesis, further optimize designed enzymes using automated directed evolution workflows to improve stability, enzyme activity and selectivity, and perform biotransformations on a multi-gram scale. /nThe studentship is fully funded, with an annual tax-free stipend set at the UKRI rate (£20,780 for 2025/26), tuition fees paid, and a start date in October 2026. /nResearch training includes computational protein design, directed evolution, molecular and structural biology, process development, and practical skills provided by industry and academic partners.
