Overview
PhD studentship at The University of Manchester in Manchester studying universality within the KPZ (Kardar, Parisi and Zhang) class of random growth models./nThis 3.5 year PhD project is fully funded for home students and EU students with settled status. The successful candidate will receive an annual tax-free stipend set at the UKRI rate (£20,780 for 2025/26) and tuition fees will be paid. The project focuses on the mathematical study of random movement of interfaces, connections to other areas of mathematics (e.g., longest increasing subsequence), and aims to prove results extending understanding of universality in KPZ-class models./nA useful background would include probability modules such as martingales, Markov chains, stochastic calculus or Brownian motion. Applicants should have, or expect to achieve, at least a 2.1 honours degree or a master’s (or international equivalent) in a relevant science or engineering related discipline.
