- What financial support is available for PhD students?
- Priority deadline: December 15 (for consideration for assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships). Applications are reviewed until all positions are filled; offers are typically sent February–April. Submit an online application and all required materials electronically.
- Six graduate-level lecture courses in the first two years (three must be core courses from analytical, inorganic, organic, or physical chemistry; three electives). Demonstrate proficiency in the four traditional areas within the first three semesters (via coursework or ACS Placement Exam). Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA in lecture courses. Submit a written research synopsis and complete an oral exam in the fifth semester. Write and defend an independent research proposal (unrelated to dissertation) in the fifth semester. Present a public lecture on research progress in the fourth year. Complete and defend a dissertation based on original research.
