FAQs
- UCL Laws offers a number of scholarships for LLM students. The university also makes central scholarships available. Eligibility and amounts vary.
- Assessment can include written exams, coursework essays, or a combination of both. The Research Essay is 9,000 words and counts toward your final grade.
- You must complete 180 credits. For full-time students, that is done over about 10 months, combining taught module credits (135 credits) and a 45-credit Research Essay. If you choose a specialism, you must take at least 60 credits from modules in that specialism and the Research Essay must relate to it.
- Yes, you generally need a recognised law qualification (LLB, JD, or Graduate Diploma in Law). In very rare cases, applicants without a law degree but with at least five years of relevant professional experience may be considered.
- You normally need a good 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in law, showing evidence of first-class performance in parts of your degree. Applicants with somewhat lower scores may be considered if they have strong analytical ability, motivation, and relevant work or academic experience.
