PhD in Precision Spectroscopy

We are looking for a motivated PhD candidate to perform state-of-the-art atomic physics experiments and to develop quantum technology based on qudits encoded in 173Yb+ ions at the University of Amsterdam, Institute of Physics (IoP), Amsterdam Science Park. The project will explore tightly focused laser beams interacting with crystals of trapped ions to prepare and control qudits and to use and characterize forbidden transitions for qudit state detection. The position includes experimental work, data analysis, programming for experiment control, scientific publications, conference presentations and completion of a PhD thesis.
