Applicants must hold a master's degree or equivalent education in mathematics, or must have submitted his/her master's thesis for assessment prior to the application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the master's degree has been awarded.
Applicants must have qualifications related to Area 2 above. This means courses focused on algebra or algebraic geometry and experience in one of these areas.
Interest in discrete structures is an advantage.
Applicants must be able to work independently and in a structured manner and demonstrate good collaborative skills.
Applicants must be proficient in both written and oral English.

There is a vacancy for a PhD Research Fellow in mathematics at the Department of Mathematics, related to algebra. The position is for a fixed-term period of three years, with the possibility of a fourth year consisting of career-enhancing work (e.g. teaching experience). The work place of the ph.d. position will be the University of Bergen. The project is funded by Tromsø Research Foundation (TFS), UiT and UiB. The starting date for the position is as soon as possible and no later than 1 March 2026.
