Overview
There is a vacancy for a PhD Research Fellow in Physical Oceanography at the Geophysical Institute and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, University of Bergen. The position is for a fixed-term period of 3 years with the possibility of a 4th year with career-promoting work. The PhD-project will focus on processes related to the Antarctic Slope Front Current and continental shelf break exchanges in King Haakon VII and Weddell Sea, Antarctica, with particular focus on the inflow of warmer water masses from the deep ocean towards the ice shelf cavities along the coast. The successful candidate will use oceanographic observations, including moored and shipboard measurements of velocity and hydrography, to investigate the spatial and temporal variability of the Antarctic Slope Front Current system and the propagation of anomalies along and onto the continental shelf and into the ice-shelf cavities. The position is based in Bergen, Vestland, Norway, and the PhD candidate will be enrolled and employed at the University of Bergen and affiliated with the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research.
