Program Name
PhD in High-Fidelity Simulations
Overview
This PhD studentship will develop tools and methodologies to support safe, efficient, and scalable manufacture of materials using resonant acoustic mixing (RAM)./nThe project includes: development of advanced numerical models for RAM processes (including chemically induced viscosity changes, temperature evolution, and cure kinetics); systematic investigation of vessel geometry and internal surface characteristics; scale-up modelling and validation using Birmingham’s National RAM facility and the OmniRAM system; experimental work (rheology, spectroscopy, particle characterisation, advanced imaging); and development and application of computational tools from high-fidelity simulations to symbolic regression and AI-driven optimisation./nThe project is conducted in close collaboration with a UK-based Defence company and offers access to unique capabilities at the University of Birmingham, including industrial-scale Positron Emission Particle Tracking and Terahertz Raman spectroscopy. Location: Birmingham, University of Birmingham.
