  • All admitted PhD students receive full financial support for at least 5 years. Funding includes tuition remission, an annual stipend, health insurance, and additional support for research or conference travel. Support is provided through fellowships, teaching assistantships, and research assistantships.
  • Yes. Non-native English speakers must submit TOEFL or IELTS Academic scores unless they have completed a degree taught in English at a recognized institution.
  • Applicants must hold a strong undergraduate degree in English or a related field. Application materials include a statement of purpose, a writing sample (15–20 pages), three letters of recommendation, and academic transcripts. A Master’s degree is not required for admission. GRE scores are not required.
  • Research areas include medieval and Renaissance literature, Shakespeare studies, early modern literature, eighteenth-century studies, Romanticism, Victorian literature, American literature from colonial through contemporary periods, African American and African diasporic literature, Native American and Indigenous literatures, postcolonial and global Anglophone studies, modernism, contemporary literature, poetry and poetics, performance studies, rhetoric and composition, critical theory, digital humanities, book history, disability studies, gender and sexuality studies, film and media studies, and environmental humanities.
  • The PhD is designed to be completed in 6 years of full-time study.
