FAQs
- Applicants need to submit academic transcripts and qualifications, references (usually two, academic or professional), a statement of purpose or personal statement, and proof of language proficiency if required. Applications are assessed after the deadline; only those meeting the academic minimum and showing strong potential are offered admission.
- There are several scholarship options like the Henry Arthur Hollond Studentship, the One Essex Court Scholarship, the Prathiba M Singh Cambridge Scholarship (for Indian applicants), and others for those showing strong academic achievement and/or financial need.
- Students take four courses from the available LLM options. Most courses are assessed by written examination at the end of the year, though there is the option (with approval) to write a full dissertation instead of the exam for one course. Examinations may be open-book or have fixed word/time limits depending on recent practice.
- Applicants should hold a first-class bachelor’s degree in law (or its overseas equivalent). The degree must place the applicant within roughly the top 10% of law students in their jurisdiction. Having a first-class degree is a minimum requirement but does not guarantee admission.
- The LLM is a nine-month, full-time, taught master’s programme. It begins in October and finishes by the end of the following June.
