PhD studentship based at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy as part of the Structural Materials Group, Cambridge, United Kingdom./nProject title: Braze Alloy Development for Advanced Repair of Aeroengine Components./nThe project will carry out fundamental metallurgical research to understand how elemental redistribution takes place between the constituents of repair brazes in superalloys and to optimise braze alloy chemistry and processing. Research methods include detailed characterisation using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and mechanical testing, together with thermodynamic and kinetic modelling. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with Rolls-Royce plc./nStipend and funding: Full funding for 3.5 years covering a personal maintenance stipend starting at £20,780 per annum with a top up of £5,500 per annum from Rolls-Royce.
