FAQs
- Students are initially registered for an MPhil and transfer to PhD status following a successful progression review. Final assessment is based on submission of an original doctoral thesis (up to 100,000 words) and a viva voce examination.
- Students benefit from the University Library, digital archives, the School of Media and Communication’s research centres, research training through the Doctoral College, and opportunities to present at departmental seminars and international conferences.
- Funding may be available through University of Leeds scholarships, UKRI studentships via the White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH), and external scholarships. Self-funded students are also welcome.
- Research areas include media and communication theory, political communication, digital media and society, journalism studies, global communication, visual and digital culture, film and television studies, cultural industries, public relations, advertising, audience research, and media policy.
- The PhD normally takes 3 years full-time or 5 to 7 years part-time.
