FAQs

  • The structured PhD is typically a full-time programme lasting 4 years. The Clinical Psychology Doctorate is a full-time, 3-year programme. Both involve independent research, taught modules, research training, and the completion of a substantial thesis.
  • Research strengths include clinical, lifespan developmental, cognitive, and health psychology. The Clinical Psychology Doctorate covers areas such as adult mental health, intellectual disability, autism, child and adolescent mental health, and elective specializations, with strong emphasis on research and clinical placements.
  • For the structured PhD, tuition fees for 2025 are approximately €12,502 per year for international students. Fees may vary by programme and residency status.
  • Applicants must submit an online application with all supporting documentation, including academic transcripts, degree certificates, two references (one academic, one employment), a CV detailing relevant experience, proof of English proficiency (if applicable), and, for clinical programmes, a work experience portfolio. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an interview assessment.
  • Applicants are normally expected to hold at least a 2.1 honours degree (or equivalent) in psychology or a related discipline. For the Clinical Psychology Doctorate, a 2.1 honours degree in Psychology or a postgraduate diploma in Psychology (as recognized by the Psychological Society of Ireland, PSI) is required. Applicants with a 2.2 degree and a relevant master’s qualification may also be considered. International applicants must provide proof of degree recognition by the PSI and demonstrate English language proficiency (typically IELTS 6.5 or above).
