- Applications are accepted year-round, but international applicants should check for specific deadlines, especially for scholarships and the annual EoI round (commonly in July)
- All PhD students receive a stipend sufficient for living expenses and a tuition fee waiver. Additional scholarships and awards are available, and students may supplement income through teaching opportunities. The Graduate Research Scholarship is automatically considered with your application and may include a relocation grant.

- The Astrophysics group covers a wide range of topics, including: Galaxy formation and evolution Inflation and the early universe Gravitational waves Dark energy and dark matter High energy astrophysics Neutron stars and black holes Cultural and Indigenous astronomy Research can be observational, computational, theoretical, or a mix.
- The PhD in Physics (Astrophysics) at the University of Melbourne is a research-only program with no required coursework. The typical duration is 3.5 years full-time. Key milestones include: Candidacy review at the end of the first year (presentation, report, and Q&A). Annual progress reviews with your committee. Thesis submission at the end of your research, reviewed by international experts.
