Overview

Based at the Advanced Materials research group in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nottingham, in partnership with the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Nottingham/nThis PhD is an industrially linked research project to develop thin-film ceramic electrical insulation coatings for high-temperature motor windings to enable higher operating temperatures and increased motor power density./nProject aim: develop a new class of thin-film high-performance ceramic insulation coatings with high dielectric strength (>1 kV/µm) and thermal stability above 500°C using advanced magnetron sputtering; aluminium-nitride-based materials; applied to metal hairpin windings to enable smaller, lighter, and more powerful electric motors./nOpportunities: travel internationally, present work at major conferences, collaborate with partner universities in France and Germany.
