Overview
A 3-year PhD Fellowship in cognitive neuroscience is available at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo, in the research Group for Cognitive Neurophysiology (PI: Jørgen Sugar). The position is funded by the DAM foundation.
We investigate memory processes and how memory dysfunction arises in disease. This project aims to advance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying memory deficits in temporal lobe epilepsy. The project will combine intracranial electrophysiological recordings in humans with behavioral experiments and advanced analytical approaches, including machine learning and statistical modeling. It has two main objectives: Develop a cognitive task for assessing neurophysiological processes involved in declarative memory; Identify neural activity patterns that underlie memory deficits in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy.
The successful candidate will join a cross‑disciplinary research team of physiologists, clinicians and informaticians. The PhD project will be supervised by Jørgen Sugar (Department of Molecular Medicine), Adín Ramírez Rivera (Department of Informatics) and Lars Etholm (Department of Neurosurgery). Starting date no later than 1 August 2026. Place of service: Sognsvannsveien 9, 0372 Oslo, Oslo, Norway.
