- Courses and thesis work can be completed in either English or French
- No. The PhD in Law at uOttawa is available only as a full-time, in-person program
- Year 1: Legal Research Methodology and Theory course (DCL 8330), elective course, and directed readings. Comprehensive Examination: Written and oral exams on the chosen readings. Thesis Proposal: Written and oral presentation of the research proposal, detailed plan, and bibliography (usually in the 5th or 6th term). Thesis: A doctoral thesis of 90,000 to 120,000 words, which must be defended before an examining board.
- The PhD is a full-time program with a maximum duration of five years. Students must remain registered full-time throughout their studies. The program includes coursework, comprehensive exams, a thesis proposal, and the completion and defense of a doctoral thesis
- Applicants must hold a Master of Laws (LLM) degree or equivalent. The program is full-time only, and courses are taught in person in either English or French. Admission is for the September intake each year
