PhD in Architectural Engineering
Overview
This project aims to understand how simulation approaches and other experimental modelling can be used to optimise building performance in relation to user health, comfort, and environmental sustainability./nIt will also establish reliable methods for validating the results and enhance the standing of computational building physics methods in finding robust architectural design for housing./nThe project seeks to systematically explore and document how various housing design parameters affect key indicators of user health and comfort when evaluated through building performance simulations./nThe project also develop a new research area on comfort standards use in simulations aiming to complement and broaden their existing scope./nThe project will explore and develop data-driven methods in architectural design./nThe study will also produce practical guidelines and a decision-support framework to help designers and policymakers create healthier and more sustainable buildings./nYou will learn and integrate simulation tools, optimisation algorithms, and multi-objective decision-making techniques into a unified framework capable of evaluating and comparing alternative building design scenarios at early design stages./nYou will establish comprehensive set of design guides affecting health and comfort of users supported by evidence from simulations and experimental analysis./nLocation: University of Southampton, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Southampton, United Kingdom.
