SDU Robotics, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for one or more fully funded 3-year PhD positions. The positions are based at SDU's main campus in Odense, Denmark, and the work is expected to be primarily onsite. The DANARC project aims to develop a robotic-based system capable of autonomously performing cardiac ultrasounds/echocardiography. The PhD project focuses on developing a framework for controlling a robotic arm with a cardiac ultrasound probe and complementary sensors to enable autonomous probe placement on predefined cardiac views by combining medical image analysis with intelligent robotic control strategies. The candidate will develop AI methods for cardiac view identification and pose estimation from ultrasound video, design a closed-loop robotic system for autonomous ultrasound scanning and navigation, support dataset acquisition, and collaborate with clinical experts.
