PhD in Engineering Materials

Start date: 1 October 2026/nDuration: 3.5 years/nFully funded PhD studentship opportunity at the University of Surrey exploring technology for mixed plastic recycling into value-added chemicals. The project will develop a transformative one-pot process to recycle mixed plastic wastes into high-value chemicals using reactive oxygen species (ROS)-assisted mechanochemical reactions effective in oxidative cracking of different polymer chains in mixed plastic wastes. The PhD candidate will acquire research skills in mechanochemistry, catalysis and plastic circular economy. The candidate will join the Surrey Circular Economy Group and the Better Water for all Network with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, industrial engagement, training, additional travel funding and mentorship for personal and professional development.
