FAQs
- A master's in Gender Studies is typical, but applicants with professional experience or qualifications of equivalent standing in related fields may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Eligible candidates may apply for internal awards such as the Chancellor’s International Research Scholarship and external schemes including CHASE (AHRC), UKRI-associated doctoral training partnerships like SeNSS, and other university doctoral funding panels.
- Applicants must submit transcripts, CV, research proposal (approx. three to four pages), writing sample (e.g. MA dissertation chapter), personal statement, and references.
- Applicants normally need an upper second-class undergraduate degree (2:1 or equivalent) and a master's degree with Merit (approximately 60% or equivalent) in Gender Studies or a related subject. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
- There are two doctoral pathways: Gender Studies (Humanities) for cultural, literary, media, and arts research; and Gender Studies (Social Sciences) for research into political, social policy, law, and social identity contexts.
