These may cover stipend (living allowance), tuition (or parts thereof), and may have eligibility requirements (academic merit, supervisor approval, topic alignment with research priorities). There are also fee scholarships tied to partner organisations.
  • The range is broad. It includes (but is not limited to): health policy; health systems management; health economics; public health; epidemiology; workforce issues; digital health; organisation performance; health service improvement. Often the research can be interdisciplinary, linking with social sciences, management, economics, etc. (This reflects UTAS’s general health research strengths.)
  • Yes. Typically, prospective students are encouraged to identify and contact potential supervisors in their research area prior to applying. Having committed supervisory support strengthens the application. Also, the proposed topic/supervisor discussion helps ensure your proposal is viable.

For instance, at UTAS for Health PhDs, there is a requirement to undertake the Graduate Certificate in Research (or equivalent) which includes core and elective units for research methodology and skills.   • The PhD is a supervised research degree. Full-time candidates typically take 3-4 years, while part-time candidates can take up to 6-8 years. There are milestones such as: submission of a draft research plan, confirmation of candidature, annual reviews, and finally thesis submission.
