PhD in Materials Engineering

The University of Turku is a world-class multidisciplinary research university that offers interesting challenges and a unique vantage point to national and international research and education./nWe are currently looking for one doctoral researcher in the field of materials engineering. The position is fixed-term and the starting time for this position would be 12.1.2026, and the contract duration will be until the end of the project 30.4.2027./nThis project develops biomimetic electrodes for bioelectrochemical systems to enhance wastewater treatment. The focus is on developing biomimetic structures decorated with nanomaterials that will capture micro/nanoplastics and aromatic compounds. The research aims to optimize biomimetic designs, nanomaterial interface, and electrode performance, offering scalable, eco-friendly water purification solutions./nThe project is done in collaboration with the Materials for Flexible devices and Materials in Health Technology groups./nDepartment of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, University of Turku, Turku, Finland.
