  • No, the program admits once per year, for the autumn quarter. We do not have winter, spring, or summer admissions.
  • The UW MSDS program is NOT a research program, but rather a professional master’s degree to prepare students for jobs in industry. We do not prepare students for Ph.D. programs, and are not associated with any Ph.D. program at a department level.
  • The UW MSDS program offers a broad-based core curriculum to prepare students to be professional data scientists in industry. While we offer an elective or two most quarters, we do not offer specializations or opportunities to deeply specialize in subfields of data science.
  • Yes, Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) are options for M.S. in Data Science students. We are a STEM-eligible program.
  • Sometimes. The UW Graduate School requires that all applicants have a minimum of a 4-year U.S. undergraduate degree or international equivalent. They may recommend you complete additional schooling in order to meet this requirement.
  • While many of our students have work experience, it is not required for admission to the program.
