PhD programmes are free of charge in Sweden regardless of citizenship. PhD students are considered employees and typically receive a salary; employment terms and salaries are determined by individual contracts. If enrolled as a PhD student and taking additional Bachelor's or Master's level courses not part of the research programme, applicants from countries outside the EU/EEA/Switzerland must pay application and tuition fees for those courses.
