PhD in Environmental Engineering

PhD position at Wageningen University & Research (Wageningen) in the Purple Spark collaborative project with the University of Antwerp focused on microbial electrochemistry for Purple Phototrophic Bacteria (PPB)./nThe project aims to uncover how external electron inputs shape the metabolism of PPB, addressing gaps in phototrophic metabolism, microbial electrochemistry and biological nitrogen fixation, and to advance photobioelectrochemical systems and production of high-value bioproducts such as amino acids, pigments and coenzyme Q10./nOne PhD position will be based at Wageningen University under the supervision of Prof. Annemiek ter Heijne, Dr. Tom Sleutels and Dr. Sanne de Smit focused on microbial electrochemistry. The position involves combining photobioreactors with electrochemical systems, laboratory experiments, comprehensive analyses, and support of teaching activities and training of MSc and BSc students./nA second PhD position will be hosted at the University of Antwerp (SUSTAIN) supervised by Prof. Siegfried Vlaeminck and Dr. Luis Diaz Allegue, focused on purple biotechnology.
