Tuition fee payment is funded by UNSW. The stipend is funded by UNSW Canberra, the research school or supervisor and is available for 3.5 years for PhD students and 2 years for research master's students.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for a scholarship at UNSW, applicants must meet all requirements detailedin the Admission to Higher Degree Research Programs Procedure and Higher DegreeResearch Scholarships Procedure from the time of application. A complete application with all supporting documentation required for assessment must beprovided by the relevant scholarship deadline. This includes transcripts for all degreesattempted, a financial declaration, the supervisor agreement/EOI outcome, satisfactory proofof English (English Waiver requests must be fully approved by the deadline), and requestsfor special consideration (for example, request for part-time scholarship as per Section3.4.2). All documents must be in English or include an English copy translated by anaccepted translator. Applicants who are currently completing a degree may be assessed based on a prediction oftheir final marks, which are to be confirmed once the degree is complete. Applicants cannot be considered for a UNSW HDR Scholarship if they are receiving from anyother source (including UNSW and the Australian Government) the following: An equivalent scholarship covering a living allowance and/or tuition fees, or Income (such as another scholarship) to support their enrolment if that income isgreater than 75% of the primary scholarship rate (income not related to the HDRprogram is not taken into account).

Benefits and Financial Coverage

The Tuition Fee Scholarship (TFS) plus Research Stipend is valued at $35,000 per annum (flat rate). Tuition fees are also covered.

How to Apply

For June 2023, the deadline closes on May 05, and for November 2023, the deadline closes on September 22. To apply for a scholarship, simply indicate that you would also like to be considered for a UNSW scholarship on your application for admission to a program and select your preferred scholarship application round. You will be considered for all the above scholarships. For more information about the application process, visit Submit an Application. Your scholarship application will then be considered by the University with all other applications submitted during the same round. Scholarship application outcomes are released progressively from the ‘Offers Released’ date. The outcome includes the result of all of the above scholarships.
